Romano džaniben: Časopis romistických studií [Journal of Romani Studies]

Romano džaniben , z. s.

The magazine was founded in 1994 by Milena Hübschmannová. It focuses on the language, history and culture of the Roma in the broadest sense of the word. In addition to scholarly articles, the magazine also publishes original works by Romani writers, portraits of Romani personalities and artists, memoirs, findings, reviews and annotations of specialized Romani literature, as well as fiction by Romani authors. The texts are published in Czech, Slovak or Romani, with English annotation in the case of specialized texts.

The editorial team has been publishing testimonies and reminiscences of Romani and Sinti people about World War II since the magazine's inception. Unless otherwise stated in the introduction, the testimonies are first recorded in the narrator's home environment, then transcribed, edited and finally authorised. The interviews are usually conducted by students or teachers of Romani Studies from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University.

Some of the reminiscences mentioned in the magazine were also published in Milena Hübschmann's book Po Židoch Cigáni.

The journal is published twice a year and numbers approximately 170 pages; the print edition is published in 300 copies and is also available online with a complete archive.
