Waldemar Spallek
Waldemar Spallek is assistant professor of geographic information systems and cartography at the University of Wrocław, Poland. In addition to designing maps and other geovisualizations, he is a specialist in thematic cartography and the history of cartography. He is the author of a number of cartographic publications, including Kartografia tematyczna [Thematic Cartography] (2012), Polskie szkolne atlasy geograficzne 1772–2012 [Polish school geographic atlases 1772–2012] (2018), as well as many atlases for students. He is also co-author (with Marcin Wodziński) of Historical Atlas of Hasidism (2018) published by the Princeton University Press. The atlas on one of today’s most important Jewish religious movements was prized by many awards for its methodological innovativeness, especially maps created with GIS-processed huge databases. Furthermore, he was the author of the conception and the editor of Atlas Karkonoszy | Atlas Krkonoš (2021), which was created in cooperation of Polish and Czech scholars.
